Twelve Golf Exercises to Kick Your Friends' Collective Butts on the Golf Course

By Matt Taylor

Dear Golfing Buddy,

I only have two words for you...

Tiger Woods.

And one of the reasons he does so well on the golf course is because he is in better condition than 99.9% of all the other pro golfers.

And what really gets to me here is the fact that Tiger Woods made roughly $5-8 million dollars on the Golf tournaments but $80 million plus on endorsements. So you have all these celebrity obsessed golfers buying Tiger Wood shirts and golf equipment but nobody... NOBODY does what Tiger Woods does... do golf strength exercise.

And golfing is a very expensive hobby. If you are going to spend all this money on golf clubs, shoes, lessons and so on... you might as well improve your conditioning... and I will tell you why.

But first of all, improving your golf fitness doesn't mean you have to spend bucket loads of time running on the treadmill or doing a bunch of high repetition of weights.

Second of all, improving your overall body strength and conditioning WILL pay off on the golf course. You will be able to hit the ball for more yards and you will be able to last longer on the golf course.

Another thing to keep in mind is this... if all you have done is swing the golf club all these years... I got some news for you... you probably overdeveloped some of your muscles for the swing and underdeveloped your other muscles because of neglect. And to be honest with you... most golfers have sedentary lives... they are weekend golfers...

And when you don't have a well balanced body... you are not using your optimal strength whacking that ball around the golf course.

To start it off... the very first thing you should do is this... if you can afford to play golf... then you can afford to get a personal trainer or consult with a fitness expert at the gym. Figure out what your conditioning is and what you can do to improve on it.

If you need to lose body fat... then do it with variable training, strength workouts and nutrition. Don't waste time with long and boring cardio.

If you have injuries and or concerns about taking up a workout program... it is always recommended that you talk to your family doctor before doing anything... because dude... the world is a much better place with you in it!

Come up with a workout program that emphasizes your golf game. For instance... shoulders, arms, back, abdominals and so on...

I am going to give you some ideas to incorporate into your training program. Be sure to consult with your fitness expert which exercise is best for your needs or to add other exercises. In no way would this list I will be giving you is the exclusive list to choose from. It is merely a good beginning...

Here are the twelve exercises to improve your golf fitness so that you won't feel like you are dragging your sorry butt around like an anvil:

1)Plank
2)Mountain climber
3) Back Extensions
4) Squats
5) Reverse Lunge
6) Romanian Deadlift
7) Spiderman Climb
8) Side Plank
9) Single Arm Dumbbell Row
10) Elevated Pushups
11) Rotator Cuff External Rotations
12) Step Ups

And don't be a dork. You don't need to do all these exercises at one time. Both you and your trainer should be able to figure out a great program to help you survive out in the golf courses.

When your friends are dragging their sorry asses at the 18th hole... YOU on the other hand will still by spry and hammering out long drives...

Find out how you will: Never be confused about effective fat loss again. Get rid of orange peel thighs. Wave goodbye to those cottage cheese arms. . Once and for all, fit back into your old "thin" clothes... AND spend more time with the family because you are not wasting it on useless and boring cardio exercises...

Wikipedia's information on golf.

Golf is a sport in which a player, using many types of clubs including a driver, a putter, and irons, hits a ball into each hole on a golf course in the lowest possible number of strokes. Golf is one of the few ball games that does not use a standardized playing area; rather, the game is played on golf "courses", each one of which has a unique design and typically consists of either 9 or 18 holes. Golf is defined in the Rules of Golf as "playing a ball with a club from the teeing ground into the hole by a stroke or successive strokes in accordance with the Rules."

The first game of golf for which records survive was played at Bruntsfield Links, in Edinburgh, Scotland, in A.D. 1456, recorded in the archives of the Edinburgh Burgess Golfing Society, now The Royal Burgess Golfing Society. The modern game of golf spread from Scotland to England and has now become a worldwide game, with golf courses in the majority of countries.

Golf competition may be played as stroke play, in which the individual with the lowest number of strokes is declared the winner, stableford points play (as devised in 1931 by Dr. Frank Stableford of the Wallasey & Royal Liverpool Golf Clubs), in which the individual with the highest points score is declared the winner or as match play with the winner determined by whichever individual or team posts the lower score on the most individual holes during a complete round. In addition, team events such as fourball have been introduced, and these can be played using either the stroke, stableford or matchplay format. Alternative ways to play golf have also been introduced, such as miniature golf, sholf and disc golf.

Golf has increasingly turned into a spectator game, with several different levels of professional and amateur tours in many regions of the world. People such as Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Lorena Ochoa and Annika Sörenstam have become well recognized sports figures across the world. Sponsorship has also become a huge part of the game and players often earn more from their sponsorship contracts than they do from the game itself.

Golf Driving Tips to Increase Your Distance

By Godfrey Swain"How do I hit the ball farther?" This is the question most people want to answer when they go hunting for golf driving tips. The fact is, it is more important to get consistency and accuracy rather than great distance. This is one reason that Tiger Woods stated for changing his swing. His results seem to bear out this assertion. His new swing gives him more consistent results and lets him win more tournaments, whereas his old swing gave more distance but less control, making for more variable tournament positions.

Even as amateurs and weekend golfers, we too, should learn this lesson. Our first step should be to develop a consistent swing with each of our clubs, rather than aiming for greater distance. Once we can hit the ball the same distance, to the same location every time, then we can increase the power of our swing to get more distance.

The first step is to learn when to use which clubs. In general, to hit long distances, you need to use the woods. To hit mid-ranges with greater accuracy, you use the irons. For shot distance, you use the putter. To get out of trouble and hazards, you use the wedges. As a beginner, you should keep things simple. Try to use irons with the same length shaft. This is called the 1-Iron or single-length system. With this simplification, you only need to learn 1 swing for all your irons, compared to 10 different swings for the usual case. You may want to avoid the hybrid clubs at first. These clubs are more versatile, but are still a relatively new concept and have not been standardized yet. This makes them difficult to fit into your game.

The next step is to identify the principles which are common to all great swings. Here is a list of the most commonly accepted elements:

  • Proper stance (for you) - The proper stance gives you good balance and a stable position to swing your club. The difficulty comes in because it also needs to take into account the length of your club and the position of the ball. Remember that the correct stance for your golfing buddy who out-scores you could be too stiff for you. Or it could be too unstable for you. You need to develop your own stance.
  • Flexibility - Your body needs to be flexible. You can't hit the ball properly if your muscles are all tensed up. There is a good reason why even professional heavyweight boxers are still smaller sized than weight-lifters and bodybuilders. They sacrifice some of that muscle for more flexibility, which gives them more power when they punch. The same principle holds true for golfers, when you swing your club to hit the ball.
  • Correct swing mechanics - You need to learn how to swing the club correctly, keeping in mind that the swing for a wood is different than the swing for an iron, etc. A training technique you can borrow from some Chinese martial arts is to start slow and relaxed. Once you get the correct movement, you gradually add more speed and power to your swing. Do remember to also practice your follow-through.

Here's Ezinearticles.com article #3 on golf that I dug up.

How to Drive a Golf Ball Farther

By Tim HathawayLearning how to drive a golf ball farther is something almost every golfer out there wants. Sure, you putt for dough but lets not leave the ego out of the equation. All golfers love to boom a long drive off the tee. It's a lot more impressive to fellow golfers than sinking a twenty food putt.

If you want to know how to drive a golf ball further there are a few important tips you'll need to understand.

1) Don't hit the golf ball. I know, sounds strange, doesn't it? Nonetheless, it's true. Instead you want to make sure to swing THROUGH the golf ball. The ball just happens to be in the way of your swing.

If you focus on making contact with the ball, you may not swing through and finish the swing the way you should.

2) Don't swing so hard. A harder swing doesn't necessarily mean a longer golf drive. Proper form is extremely important.

It's a lot like baseball. If you've ever seen Chase Utley of the Phillies hit, you know exactly what I mean. He has a short, compact swing that looks very effortless. He sure isn't using a typical "home run swing." And yet he could very well lead the major in home runs this year.

But it's not about the force of his swing. It's about the form and the timing of when the bat meets the ball. In our case, it's the driver meeting the ball.

3) Relax. This goes along with not swinging so hard. If your muscles are tense because you are focused on really ripping your tee shot, you won't be able to generate much power.

This time I'll use the tennis serve as an example. Tennis players with a smooth, loose serving motion and good timing, are the one's that hit powerful serves.

If you're tense when hitting a serve, you don't get the snap of the wrist (which generates a lot of power) or the smooth follow through.

The same is true in golf. You need to let your muscles relax and make a proper swing.

If you want to know how to drive a golf ball further, pay attention to these three tips.

Article #4 for one more perspective on golf. Allegedly the best golf tip ever!

Best Golf Tip Ever!

By Ken Tonks

The "best tip ever". Wow, that sounds like something doesn't it? Better than the tip about not looking up until you hear the ball fall into the hole on short putts? Could it be that good? (I always thought that to be the dumbest tip myself. If you do miss, you have no more information on the next putt than you had on the one you just missed because you weren't watching! How dumb is that?

Anyway, back to the best tip ever...

Just send $19.95 and I'll send you my c.d.....just kidding! Here it is:

This move involves dropping the right elbow into your right side as your first move on the downswing. You want to bring your right elbow into your side so that you can actually feel it lightly touch your shirt. What this does is keep you on the inside path to the ball, preserves your wrist cock, and eliminates that over the top move that been causing all those banana balls and cursing fits you've been having all these years.

What you are doing is dropping into the infamous "slot". Watch the pro's swing. They almost seem to "drop" a hair as they transition from the back swing to the downswing. The legs squat just a bit, and their is a slight pause as the club changes direction. At that pause is when you think "bring that elbow down as I start the downswing. Down, NOT OUT!

Most of us "fire from the top" in an effort to clobber the ball. It seems like the more powerful move, but it absolutely is not. Problem with this move is that it immediately starts un cocking your wrists, while throwing your arms away from your body. The result is an over the top, outside in swing, with most of the power spent long before you get to the ball. By keeping your elbow tucked into your right side, you automatically swing from the correct inside to inside path, and you'll maintain most of your wrist cock until the last minute. As Emerald would say, "BAMM!"

Take your time on the downswing. Swing hard!, but let it progress. You're first move should be a little drop motion as your right elbow pulls down into your right side. Now that you're in "the slot", get ready to let her ride! Release the hands hard at impact and feel the resulting power. If you've never hit a shot from "the slot" before, you're in for a treat, and a good 20 or more yards off the tee.

Not a bad tip huh?
