Horse racing, golf, motor racing, tennis, rugby, sailing – Dubai hosts some of the most prestigious events in the world and the sport-loving emirate has developed into an all-round venue, attracting international stars and events that place the city way ahead of the regional game as one of the world’s up-and-coming sporting destinations. From traditional pastimes such as camel racing and endurance riding, to international calendar events in the arena of golf, motor racing and even polo, Dubai has developed into a sporting venue capable of competing on a global level, and offers some of the finest facilities to be found anywhere in the world. Pick up any Dubai newspaper or magazine and you’ll soon discover that sport is an integral part of the city’s fabric.
From football to falconry, motorsport to marathon running, the Dubai sporting calendar offers something for everyone. Naturally, most outdoor sporting activities take place in the cooler autumn and winter months stretching from October through to late March with sporting superstars keen to flock to the Gulf’s most cosmopolitan city to take part in some of the richest events on their respective calendars. But it’s not only the events and tournaments that are of the highest standard; Dubai has also created a number of bespoke sporting venues and facilities that are on par with top venues around the world – and when that gold medal infrastructure is combined with traditional Arabian hospitality, the sporting world is given a winning combination that is hard to beat.
Since opening its first all-grass championship course at the Emirates Golf Club in 1988, Dubai has grown to become one of the most exciting golfing destinations in the world. Today, the Dhs8.8 million (US$2.4 million) Dubai Desert Classic – part of the PGA European Tour – attracts the world’s greatest stars including Tiger Woods, Ernie Els, Lee Westwood and Colin Montgomerie. Each year, approximately 40,000 spectators take advantage of the smaller galleries to get up close to the great and the good of the game and enjoy one of the most popular dates on the Tour’s overseas calendar. The event, which was held from January 26th to February 1st this year and won by Rory McIlroy, is one of the social occasions of the year. But perhaps the biggest golfing highlight of 2009 is the inaugural Dubai World Championship, which is to be held in November. The tournament is the final competition in the Race to Dubai, which has replaced the European Tour Order of Merit. With a prize fund of more than Dhs36 million, it’s the world’s richest golf tournament. And who can forget the dramatic pictures of world number one Tiger Woods hitting golf balls into the Arabian Gulf from his ‘elevated tee’ on the Burj Al Arab helipad?
It’s not just Woods who enjoyed his photo shoot 200 metres above the shimmering Gulf, however. Roger Federer and Andre Agassi took their racquets to the top of the opulent seven-star hotel in 2005 during a break in the action at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Open. And like the Desert Classic, this is another event that attracts the sport’s big guns. In addition to the Swiss ace and the Vegas showman, the purposebuilt Dubai Tennis Stadium has also seen serves, slices and smashes from Tim Henman, Rafael Nadal, Stefan Edberg and Marat Safin. On the women’s front, Anna Kournikova, Williams sisters Venus and Serena, Justine Henin-Hardenne and Amelie Mauresmo have all grunted and groaned across the blue courts as the two events – both men’s and women’s opens – continue to go from strength to strength. The annual Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships signed a new three-year, Dhs33 million (US$9 million) sponsorship deal at the beginning of 2008 with Barclays, which resulted in a name change to the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championship.
Held every February, the tournament sees the ladies battling it out before the men take to the courts to round off the two-week tournament. This year, the top 10 women and seven of the top 10 men fought from February 15th to 28th. With so many household names, the tournament can rightly claim its place among the big four on the UAE sporting scene.

Many people search for active adult communities online but what is an active adult community and why are they so desirable? In this brief article we will explore these communities and explain why they are so desirable.
Seniors aged 55 or older are turning to active adult communities for their home purchase because of the amenities and opportunities to live in a community that fosters an active lifestyle.
A new wave of active adult communities is starting to emerge as “dinks”, couples over 40 years of age with no kids, have expressed an interest in these communities. Developers have started changing community rules and developing new communities to meet the demand.
An active lifestyle is the common thread in all these communities. Community social directors coordinate activities at the community fitness center including exercise classes hosted by certified trainers, swim classes and social clubs.
Walking and biking paths meander through the natural landscapes of the communities. These miles of paths provide a safe place to walk, jog or bike ride. Some active adult communities offer golf courses and tennis courts.
Low maintenance best describes the homes in active adult communities. Homes are designed to withstand the elements through brick veneer or vinyl siding wall coverings and asphalt shingle roofs. Vinyl windows and clad eaves reduce or eliminate the need for annual painting.
Manufactured and modular homes are popular choices for developers who construct these communities due to there reduce construction times and flexibility with options.
Active Adult Communities In Closing
These communities have remained popular even I tight real estate markets. As the number of seniors and dinks continue to rise, it is no doubt that these communities will continue to grow.

An athlete works very hard everyday to stay in shape. There are very intense physical workouts, not to mention being in the game. Most athletes over work there bodies in a game and can therefore do allot of damage to their muscles.
Since massage is an effective way of alleviating pain of backaches and sore muscles, many athletes include massage therapy in their daily activities to ensure that they are rejuvenated and recharged for the next day ahead of them.
In addition to rejuvenation and relaxation, massage therapy is also efficient in warming up the muscles prior to a physical activity. This is a great way of preventing injuries since tight muscles are prone to damages.
Due to the high demand of sports today sports therapy massage has been invented to cater to the specific needs of an athlete or any other person who is engaged in intense physical activities.
Doctors recommend massage to help with blood circulation that helps with performance and can also prevent largely the risks of injuries such as pulled muscles, fractures, and sprains.
After an intense game or workout the athletes would usually need a cold bath or rub-down. Massage can aid in the muscles cooling as well as helping to relax the body and mind.
As popular as some athletes might be it is still impossible to have a massage therapist follow them around. Athletes knowing how important massage is they have now found various kinds of massage chairs, available in the market today that perform sports related massages such as Swedish, shiatsu, reflexology, acupressure, and deep tissue massage.
Massage chairs include features that are designed for both amateur and professional athletes. Features such as adjustable speed and intensity, MP3 player, reclining system, and stretching system make these electronic devices even more efficient and useful.
If you want all the benefits of sports therapy such as improved circulation, tension release for the muscles, quick rehabilitation of injuries, and decrease of muscular aches and pains, just like a real massage therapist, then you know you can not go wrong with a massage chair.
Buying a high quality massage chair is a good investment for any athlete. For one, you do not have to call up your masseuse every time you need a massage. You can easily get one from your massage chair and experience instant relaxation and satisfaction.
Are massage chairs cheap? No, but is it not worth your investment to have a quality chair that can do everything for you plus get you through any injury, or muscle pains you might have experienced in the past.
Whether you play tennis, football, basketball, or golf and whether you are a daily sports player, or an occasional one, you will find that a massage chair that provides excellent sports therapy , can be your best ally in defeating muscle pains, backaches, and sports-related injuries.

Many of us are working longer hours and working harder just to stay where we are at. This can lead to greater fatigue in the body. Fatigue leads to stiffness which eventually leads to aches and pains. These symptoms can persist for days, weeks or even years. If your feet are aching, take off your shoes and slip them into the foot wells. Activate the reflexology foot massage. The reflexology foot massage stimulates the 7200 nerve endings located on the soles of your feet. This provides great relief for someone on their feet all day.
The manufacturers of massage chairs have incorporated a number of different movements for bodily relief. The use of stretching, elongating and pushing and pulling are used to soothe tight muscles. A variety of mechanical devices have been developed to accomplish these movements.
Massage chairs also are equipped with stretching systems. These stretching systems are able to elongate the lower body. They effectively stretch you from the hips to the ankles. This provides great relief for the lower body.
Some of the top massage chair manufacturers have incorporated heat. Heating elements have been located in different parts of the massage chair. You can select the area to apply heat which helps reduce swelling, and enhance blood circulation.

After having performed many of sports physicals over the years, I have seen an ever increasing trend in poor posture. Often, the posture is compromised before a sport is undertaken, and frequently the posture is affected by repetitive motions of a certain sport.
You can simply perform an assessment of your own posture by having another person observe you from behind you (six feet directly behind you). Does one shoulder look higher than the other? Does one hip look higher? Check to see if your feet are straight, is one flaring out more than the other? The knees should be in alignment as well, facing the same direction. Your head should be equally balanced, not leaning to one side. If some differences are noticed, you may have a biomechanical problem that is inhibiting your sports performance.
I like to use the analogy of your car being out of alignment. If your car is misaligned, your tires will wear out unevenly, you will not get optimum fuel efficiency in your car, and it will not run like it should. The same principle applies to the human body. Do you believe that your body would be more or less susceptible to injury if you were a runner and you had one hip higher than the other, which caused one leg to be an inch shorter? Running day-after-day, mile-after-mile?
The body will respond to the misalignment by its innate ability to compensate for its changes and will adapt to the differences. However, there is an insidious process, disease sets in, and so the person may not have symptoms for many years before they experience other health problems. One of the most common conditions that occur is degenerate osteoarthritis of the spine and pelvis. The bottom line is, if your biomechanics were in ideal working order, you would be a better, more efficient runner.
One of the most common comments I hear when a new patient visits the office is “I can golf fine if I take two anti inflammatories or pain pills before I golf, but after I’m done I have a lot of pain”. Do you see the point that I am trying to make? If our bodies are giving us pain or it has restricted our range of motion in some way, it is trying to tell us that something is wrong. Like your car oil light coming on to warn you that the oil is low, do you turn the light off?
We often treat our automobiles better than our bodies. We can thank the drug companies and medical profession for constant bombardment in radio, print, and television ads. Billions of dollars are spent yearly to convince you to take that little wonder pill or potion for fast relief. They advise us to get rid of that symptom fast, ignore what the cause is. We need to take responsibility for our own health. Listen to your body; no one knows it better than you.
A pre-exercise warm up is imperative, but often disregarded. Most people want to “get right into their workout” and therefore begin their exercise regime before their muscles and ligaments have warmed up sufficiently. Without this precaution, one pre-exposes themselves to abnormal strain on their ligaments and muscular system.
It is even more urgent that we take a serious look at this with the looming changes in our Healthcare System. The quality will not be as good. We should open our eyes, and look to the future. Say to yourself, what if 10, 20 or 30 years from now I have (fill in the blank). What could I have done to prevent that, should I have done this or that? The time for action is now!
