Top Tips For Improving Your Handicap

12:29 pm March 14, 2010

Take these tips into consideration for your next round of golf and see the marked improvements, Good Luck, and enjoy yourself!
Men, women and children alike now enjoy golf. Its growth in popularity has seen an increased uptake in the sport, with a wide range of skill levels taking to the golf course. Here you will find helpful tips to improving your game regardless of your ability level.

Practice
Stating the obvious, practice makes perfect and quality not quantity is key! As little as one hour a day for four times a week can demonstrate marked improvements in your game. An intense hour focused on your form will be much more beneficial than a half day at the driving range, catching up with your friends (although the latter may sound more fun).

Attitude
Start your round of golf with a positive attitude, and make sure you maintain this mental state the whole way around the course, stay confident and focused, don’t loose your temper when you drop a shot, move forward positively or you could cloud your judgement and throw away your game! Concentration and composure is key!

Getting a Grip
There are many factors that will affect your golf grip, the size of your hands, the strength of your forearms, the actual grip on your club to name a few.
A range of grip thicknesses are available to fit on to your clubs, choose one which makes your hand grip feel most comfortable and secure. To tackle strength, do some light weight exercises. The size of your hands can’t be modified, but you can choose a grip position better suited to your hand type,
popular choices include the Vardon Overlap Grip, Interlocking Grip and the Ten Finger Grip.

The Backswing It is essential that you start correctly or the whole swing will be negatively effected, remember if you are right handed to keep the left arm straight (vice versa if you are left handed) during the backswing, and really go back as far as you can with out bending your arm, this setting you up in good stead for a powerful down swing.

Downswing
For a perfect downswing you will need to gradually increase the speed of your swing from start to finish. A solid stance, making a secure triangle with your legs and keeping a straight back and focused mind will set you up for success.
Try and put some of these tips into practice and see the marked improvements in your game.

Tiger Woods Race: Is It Really Important?

2:40 pm October 21, 2009

At the time, in the mid 1990’s, the 21-year-old golf star was touted as the “Great Black Hope”, the putter-wielding equivalent of Martin Luther King Jr. Pundits waxed poetic about the cosmic social significance of Woods’ feat. “I am Tiger Woods” ads seem.

Then, Tiger Woods said he wasn’t “black” at all — he was, in fact “Cablinasian.” Woods made his remarks on “Oprah,” when he was asked if it bothered him to be called an African-American. “It does,” he said. “Growing up, I came up with a name for me in general: I’m a ‘Cablinasian.’” As in Caucasian-black-Indian-Asian. Woods has a black father (or to be precise, if I am interpreting Woods’ reported ancestry correctly, a black and American Indian, white father) and a Thai mother (or with the same caveat, a half-Thai, half-Chinese mother). “I’m just who I am,” Woods told Oprah Winfrey, “whoever you see in front of you.”

But just “who I am” remained contested ground. According to Time magazine, Woods’ coming out as a Cablinasian caused “a mini-racial firestorm … Woods’ remarks infuriated many African Americans who now see him as a traitor. Some blacks saw Woods’ assertion of a multiracial identity as a sellout that could touch off an epidemic of “passing”. Light-skinned Colin Powell, responded to Woods’ comments with: “In America, which I love from the depths of my heart and soul, when you look like me, you’re black.”

No one can deny Tiger Wood’s is the best golfer of his generation and it’s interesting to note that this little “Cablinasian” 2 year old could hit the ball with his child size GolfClubsForSale-tp2-109.html">golfing equipment even at the young age two as seen in the following video.

Notice how little Tiger swings his GolfClubsForSale-tp2-109.html">golf iron sets similar to the way in which he does now only with more precision and grace.

While I’m not putting forward Tiger Woods as a role model, racial or otherwise. I don’t know anything about him, except that he seems to respect both of his parents and is an athletic prodigy who is a master at self-marketing, and is given to telling black men have big dicks jokes in slick men’s magazines. But whoever Woods really is behind the scenes, his refusal to be pigeon holed into a single racial category points the way out of the dualistic rigidity and emotional hysteria that has led America into a racial impasse. By choosing to embrace all of who he is: an entity for which there is no name, except one that sounds like a tribe from a country from the movie Narnia, Woods, the goofy 21-year-old with the golden-brown skin and the near to perfect swing, has become a messenger for a larger truth. The our racial differences don’t make us who we are in life.

The Five Keys To Length Off The Tee

9:04 am June 28, 2009
by James Perry

In his book “The Five Keys to Distance”, World Long Drive Champion Eric Jones attempts to teach you the fundamental concepts and swing sequence you need to use to get more distance. This book will show you the simple biomechanics you can use to enhance your own, natural athleticism to drive 20, 30 or even 50 yards further, every time.

As a World Long Drive Champion it is Jones’ job to drive the ball as far as he possibly can. He has spent 6 years studying those elements the golf swing that can affect length off the tee. As a PGA Professional he worked with thousands of students to help them drive the ball further and with more consistency. Some of these students have achieved remarkable successes of their own. The concepts in this book are not only theory. They are tried and tested techniques that will help you get more length off the tee.

The secret to improving your length off the tee is very simple, but it took Jones a long time to figure out how best to apply it. When he started working on increasing his own length off the tee he was focused on the perception of what most people think is important: how to hit the ball harder. However,he found is that when it comes to the golf swing, you can’t change the laws of physics or the fundamental realities of biomechanics. You have to work with them to maximise the outcome with the natural ability you have.

Taking a swing that isn’t built for distance and intensifying that swing will not lead to more distance. It only leads to tension, and tension kills swing speed. The real ‘light bulb’ moment came when he realized it’s about swinging faster, not harder. That one simple change in thought process took him in a completely new direction, and had a major effect on his long-term success as a competitive golfer, ultimately becoming the World Champion in Long Distance Driving.

This book represents the distillation of everything he have learned about driving the ball further: the swing mechanics, the practice routines, the drills and even the mental approach to distance. Everything that he uses myself, and everything he teaches his students, including the lessons he’s learned and the unbelievable changes he have seen both in his ability to hit the ball further and in his student’s results. So now you know: The Secret To Hitting Longer Drives Is Swing Speed.

Your Hidden Tendencies

10:36 am June 3, 2009

Swing improvement is a life-long process for every serious golfer.
As soon as you become skilled enough to spot & fix specific swing
issues, other small items that need tweaking will readily become
apparent.

And once you fix those areas, your skill level will increase & your
trained eye will start noticing previously unknown issues. This
never-ending process of refining a swing is what keeps the sport
exciting. In other words, your learning process is continual & there
is always room to sharpen your skills (Even professional golfers hire
coaches to help them fix potential swing problems)…..

Clubface Alignment:

Doing something incorrectly in one place can create errors elsewhere
in your swing. Keep this in your mind during your practice & time
on the course. It’s important to take a “whole picture” view of your
swing. Problems you are experiencing may be being caused
elsewhere.

The alignment of the clubface is one of the most important factors in
determining the direction of the shots you take. Clubface alignment
is critical. If the face of your club looks to the left or right of your
target when you make impact, it may also cause errors in your swing
path & precise angle of attack. It can also impair your clubhead
speed, ever so slightly…..

The Quest

12:04 pm May 30, 2009

Everyone who starts playing golf eventually realizes that the swing
is “where it’s at.” Those who have refined their skills in swinging are
the ones who often end up with the lowest scores. It’s not rocket
science.

In order to make every swing count, you need to bring together
various elements of skill & concentration. When combined, a
graceful swing drives the ball with the perfect amount of loft &
distance it needs to reach the target.

It should be one big fluid motion. And, you should almost feel the
ball, club, & body become one.

A. Touch Of Grace

Once you have initiated your swing & the club starts its descent
toward the ball, it should be done as gracefully as possible.

Beginner golfers often whip the golf club as hard as they can during
the beginning of their downswing. This will sometimes result in
improper weight shifting & misaligned contact with the ball. And,
as a result, balance & power are lost.

Remember, great shots are made with precision & grace, not by raw
force.

B. Just The Right Balance

Balance is essential in all sports, particularly in golf. To perform
effectively, athletes need to have good balance, especially during
crucial moments of game.

In golf, balance plays an important role during every swing you take.
It affects the accuracy & power of every shot.

When a player has not centered their balance & shifts their weight
from foot to foot, their tempo can get affected. The clubhead just
won’t hit the ball with the desired angle needed to make a great shot.

(The next time you play, take a look around. You’ll notice some
players who seem to almost fall over after their swing. This is case
in point of lack of balance control.)

The key to stopping weight shift (and losing your balance), is to
rotate your body around a single axis point. In other words, your golf
swing should not be lateral, it should be more rotational.

Keeping this in mind will help you maintain control of your body &
balance. In turn, this will help you hit the ball with precise accuracy
& just the right amount of power.

1. The Driving Range

When you practice at the driving range, it’s a heck of a lot of fun
trying to hit the ball as far as you can. In my opinion, I like driving
balls on the range a lot more than I like playing the game itself (but
don’t tell anyone!).

However, you can improve other skills besides driving for distance
when you are on the range. One skill that can be improved is your
balance.

Instead of a forceful, choppy feeling, you want your swing to be
even & fluid-like. Developing good balance will help you do just
that. And, the driving range is the perfect “no pressure” zone to do
so.

2. What To Do

You can improve your balance by taking practice swings & hitting
shots with your feet placed squarely together. It will probably feel
awkward at first, but you will discover that much can be learned by
swinging the club with your feet together.

Having a condensed base like this will also help you develop a better
sense for the weight & power of your clubhead.

C. What To Fix First

Getting a great golf swing takes a combined effort of many variables
including tempo, control, grace, & balance. If you are a beginner
golfer or need major improvements, don’t try to fix everything at
once.

Working on your swing takes patience & focus. Focus on one
element at a time!

The best way to move up the ladder of golf skills is to take one
element of your swing & concentrate on it until it is top-notch. Then
move on to other areas of improvement that need touching up.

Pinpointing Swing Problems

7:42 pm May 27, 2009

Most golf instructions and lessons on swing improvement provide a
well thought out system that help players with the fundamentals they
need in order to fix any basic swing problems.

However, many situations on the golf course will spring up where
you may not be able to pin-point the specific problem area.

A. What To Look For

It is often quite difficult for the beginner golfer to pick up on their
individual problem areas. So, when you hit a roadblock & can’t
figure out what needs to be adjusted, the first place to check is your
back shoulder.

Is it dipping down towards the ground during your backswing?

This issue is most prevalent in golfers that have a horizontal swing
plane. These players have a tendency to drop their back shoulders as
their swing plane gradually becomes horizontal.

Dipping your back shoulder within your backswing can cause
numerous swing problems.

The back shoulder dip can cause your timing to be thrown way off.

This can also lead to having your weight shift improperly when you
swing, poor follow-through position, and a distortion of your hand
position during impact.

A. The Fix
The good news is that there is a fairly easy solution to this problem.

1. The next time you visit the practice range, take an extra golf ball
and place it underneath your back foot. Make sure that half of the
ball is buried in the ground, sitting directly underneath your heel.
This simple solution will help you fix your back shoulder issue
because it prevents unwanted weight transfer.

2. Next, just line up & swing. You may take practice swings or just
tee off. Try to stop dipping your back shoulder inside your
backswing by keeping your shoulder up.

This drill is so simple that once mastered, you should be making
solid contact with the ball regularly. Eventually, you will naturally
swing without shifting any weight towards the back, thereby fixing a
number of problems with your swing.
