If you are an avid golfer then you already know that putting tips are the most important part of your whole golf game. Out of all the various clubs that you carry in that golf bag, the putter will be the club that you will use the most often. Once you have a complete understanding of the importance of a great putt, this knowledge will go a long way toward improving your game and your experience out on the green. This is even true if golf is just your little hobby – wouldn’t it be nice to learn how to perform at the top of your game and impress your family and friends? Follow the tips below and you’ll be able to do just that.
Golf putting revolves around four skills – analyze the path, analyze the distance, hit the path and hit the distance. Upon mastering these sets of skills you will be able to gain an excellent golf swing. Confidence is an important ingredient in improving your swing and that can be nurtured with constant practice.
The knowledge of using the putt, choosing the target and aiming the putter are the three essential tips for a refined putting stroke. The foremost information refers to the ideal distance for the putt backswing, it is recommended to take the right toe as a standard point, then accelerate the club-head and hit the ball. Remember, to hold your wrist steady and swing from the shoulders for that great shot.
For starters, make sure you see the direct line of the putter clearly and easily by keeping your eye constantly over the ball. Some experts will advise you that, for you to putt over a long distance, don’t be to concerned about your aim, but rather on your distance, wait until you are close enough to see the line of the putt in a more clear way.
Secondly, the aim of playing is to have a great time while enjoying a game of golf. As such, before you even think of, or begin putting, take your time to read and understand the greens. By doing so, you are eliminating any mistakes you might make in your putting. This is the beginning of a great golf game. Before you know it, your game will improve tremendously and you will be excited and confident every time you have a chance to play.
After a careful analysis of the type of stroke you intend to use in your golf game, you can now start thinking of the type of putter that you are going to use for particular shots. You will choose the right putter each time you play if you follow the above tips.
Your putter is now ready and the only thing you need to do is see to it that it is relaxed in your hand. Having enough strength, a firm but relaxed grip on the putter helps you control the putter head.
Finally remember practice makes perfect. The more you practice your putting skills the better you will become and before you know it you will be a master at your own game. Be sure that you choose all of your putting steps carefully and amaze your friends and family.

Golf is a sport in which you can play for most of your life. So, starting to play at a later age is no really a challenge. However, there are many people who decide to start playing and they may have a friend or family member teach them. With golf, in particular, this is a really bad mistake. Without knowing the proper basics, a beginning player will pick up bad habits and not much technique, which will lead to a very unrewarding attempt at this complicated sport. By taking golfing lessons, from a Professional, will teach all of the basics and then with practice and then more practice, a player can improve.
Golf, like tennis, requires more than just a good swing or a good mind for the game. There are many occasions in golf, that necessitate touch and judgment. But before you can learn any of these areas, you must be solid in many other areas of the game. Once you have worked with a Professional to get your ball to the green, then you should have putting lessons to help you improve your score.
Unless you are taught how to use your physical abilities, there is no way that you will have much fun playing a round. Once you have this part down, you should take putting lessons to complete the process. Then it is all about practice, practice, practice.
Even before you pick up a golf club, there are things that you must have knowledge about. How you approach the ball is the first step of the golf swing. Balance is one of the most parts of this process. Standing with your feet spread to about shoulders width, should provide a comfortable and stable position. The golf ball should be placed on a straight line from the instep of your forward foot. This way, you will be reaching out to hit it. Standing in this position, remember how this looks to you, as you must repeat it each time that you tee off.
Your club should be parallel to the ground and pointing towards the target. Then your body should take over to complete the swing. Many people start using their hands and arms. This is a mistake and your teacher can show you how to overcome this. Professional golfers will not use their hands until the club is almost back to the ball. In other words, at about the time that your golf club is again, parallel to the ground, on the way down, your big muscles should be doing the work. This is when the power comes into play. The goal is to generate power without over swinging the club.
The downswing is what will propel the ball, so this is where the power comes into play. However, until you are about half way down, your big muscles should be doing the work, not your hands and arms. Think of it as a recoil and uncoil. This will give you some idea of what you are trying to do. Again, a Professional will be able to assist you. The players on Tour, do not use their hands and wrists until the club is almost parallel to the ground on the way back to the tee. Then they release all of the power and hit the ball. The swing is not complete until you have finished. That means that your belly should be pointing towards the target and the club should fold, comfortably. This is the part of the swing that makes the ball head in the direction that you planned.
Many new players do not understand the follow through. That means that your swing does not stop as soon as you make contact. Part of making the ball head in the direction that you want it to is based on your completion of your swing. The goal here is to finish the swing with your belt buckle pointing at your original target. Simply put, you have the basics of a swing. It will be different for swings made in the fairway and in the rough. Your swing will change if you need to hit it high or low. There will be changes in it if you are chipping or putting. When it comes to improving your score, putting lessons are at least as important as the rest, when you consider that at least 50% of your shots are made from the green.
It does sound complicated, but it is not. All you need are golfing lessons and practice. The more you do of both, the more quickly you will get a handle on the game. Golf is great fun and it is wonderful exercise, especially if you walk the course, instead of using a cart. The benefits of lessons will make you more confident and much happier with the days that you play. Have fun, play well and maybe you will end up on the Professional Golfers Tour.

Your scorecard can only be improved by increasing your skills. And
your skills will increase when you prepare & push yourself on every
shot. You should ask yourself: What do I expect from this shot?
What is a reasonable result?
A. Reasonable Goals
The key to lowering your score is to try to avoid too many putts in
general. That’s the goal, really.
There is a difference between goals & expectations. Goals are the
end game. Expectations are what you have about small steps toward
your goals. Often, your expectations won’t be met, so use baby steps
to move towards your goals.
The initial goal you should have is to use 36 putts or fewer on an 18
hole course. To get there, you must use two putts or less on every
hole.
This goal obviously becomes easier to achieve if you are
consistently getting the ball onto the green from the tee.
But, during those times where it lands 30 to 50 feet away from the
hole, you’ve got some work to do. It’s takes extreme focus to make
those long putts successful.
B. Make Every Putt Count
By setting a goal of 36 or less putts per game, you’ve taken a
positive step to improving your game.
When facing a long putt, you may get lazy & lose confidence in your
ability to make the shot. This may cause you to swing in a
halfhearted matter & you are destined to fail even before trying.
This happens to us all. Just keep going, avoid thinking like this, &
don’t give up faith!
Try again.
Reset.
And, make every putt count.
C. Over Confidence
Even if the shot appears to be easy, the same outcome may result if
you are too confident. You may have been successful in getting the
ball close to the hole, but now you feel overly confident & start
attacking the ball aggressively.
Instead of staying focused, your overconfidence & lack of
concentration may cause an easy 2′ putt to completely miss the hole.
The key is really to find a balance between B & C above.
Get into the zone. Know that you can sink it, but don’t taken it for
granted….

Putting may sound simple, but you should strive to spend as much
time as possible practicing your putts from various lengths & with
different breaks as you can.
Spend time on the green taking long putts, short ones, putts that
break from right to left, left to right, holing out straight putts, &
others.
There are an enormous variety of putts you can practice. By
investing your time into practicing every type of putt you can think
of, you will become more comfortable & confident with any
scenario that you are confronted with on the green.
A. The Questions
To enhance & optimize your practice, ask yourself the following
questions:
1. Are your putts too hard or too soft?
2. Are you continually misreading the break?
3. Are you comfortable with lengthy putts?
4. When your ball hits the hole, how does it to react? Does it roll
right over? Does it sink, but then bounce out?
5. Are you using an uneven stroke which causes you to pull or push
the putt?
Focus on these areas & adjust as needed. These are great starting
points to refining an incredible putt.
B. Why It’s Important
The huge variety of information that can be found on this simple
little shot involves tips on styles, strategies, types of putters,
philosophies, & individual techniques.
There is even research available regarding scientific putting theories
& tests! Talk about in depth stuff! It’s truly amazing how far
technology has influenced our lives & continues to do so.
But, beginner golfers, amateurs, and even some Pros all tend to
overlook just how integral putting is to the game of golf.
What it comes down to is that putting seems boring. Well, guess
what? It is boring.
However, it’s got to be mastered.
Many people have a fascination with sending the ball high into the
air from the tee. They retain images of professional golfers wacking
the ball great distances with a swing that seems like ultimate in
grace.
Who dreams of “boring” putt shots?
Not many golfers at first. But, to lower your score, you better start
aspiring to improve your putting skills.
The truth is that putting is the culmination of every shot you made
on each hole. Each shot you take leads up to that one defining
moment when you must get into the hole. Putting truly is the “end
game.”
Think about it. You’ve already got your tee shot to fly straight & far
as you can. You’ve taken the approach shot(s) without sending the
ball into the rough or other disaster areas.
Now you’re on the green. You want to sink it smoothly into the hole
without a glitch.
Mastering putting is the only way to end the hole.
Now, putting seems more important than you’d think it was, doesn’t
it? Maybe it’s not glamorous, but putting is critical to getting that
lower score.
C. Sharpen Up Your Skills
You see, putting is one of the most important parts of the game. It
takes the perfect combination of speed, confidence, coordination, &
precision.
You need to adjust your body and swing style so that just enough
strength is used to tap the ball. You must do this while
simultaneously holding back the excitement you feel when making
this last shot (this is covered more in depth below).
Easier said than done…right?
But, what if you miss? It takes great character to not “blow your top”
in sheer frustration. The pros who’ve been around a while know that
golf is a game of patience….a slow game of precision.
So, you should take practicing your putts as seriously as you do
other shots. Consider this: that long drive that you just hit from the
tee just traveled 200 to 300 yards….But, it counts the SAME as a
putt: 1 stroke! It’s hard to grasp this concept initially as most humans
aren’t good at non-linear thinking, but, that’s reality on the course.
At the end of the day, the scorecard doesn’t care what type of shots
you had make. So, if you are going to put the practice hours in,
devote a decent amount of them to developing your putting skills.

Are you seeing too many angles when you stand over a putt?
Have you checked to ensure that you are lined up correctly? Your
conscious alignment may be at war with your subconscious’. And
your putt might be caught in the conflict between them both….
Sounds funny, doesn’t it? Not really if you think about it…
Try this:
Pick a hole on a flat spot on the practice green and drop your ball a
few feet from the hole. Stand behind the ball and line up the putt.
You are going to use the printed brand name on the ball as a guide,
so make sure you can see it.
Position the ball so that the name is pointing straight toward the
hole. When you get over the ball with your putter, match the line on
top of your putter to the line on the ball’s logo.
Put the putterhead flush behind the ball on this line. Now take notice
of your feet. Are they perpendicular to the line created by the logo?
How about your shoulders?
Finally, are you taking the putter head straight back and straight
through during the stroke?
This will give you a very good indicator on how to adjust your
alignment.

Good putting can make or break a decent score. After all, we all
want to get our score as low as possible. Let’s run through some
quick putting tips to get that score down ASAP!
The Way the Grass Grows
Every golf shot combines two basic elements:
1.One is judging distance and the effects of the terrain and wind on
the ball.
2.The other is a complete execution of your swing. (When it comes
to putting, the mental gymnastics count more for this shot than any
other one that you’ll attempt).
There are ways to help you putt better. In fact, ways that your fellow
players might not be aware of & that you can use to your advantage.
Many golfers simply pace the distance to the cup.
Instead, try this:
1.Stand over the ball & look at the line heading straight towards the
hole and…
2.At the same time measure the distance in 5 or 10 foot intervals.
3.Then check the texture of the grass.
4.Then, Take notice of which direction the grass is growing!
You obviously do not have to hit the ball as hard when the grass is
growing towards the hole, as opposed to away from the hole. But,
the trick is that the grain can be a little difficult to see unless you
look closely.
So, take a moment and use the direction of the grass growth as a
indicator to judge how much power you need in your putt.
And, don’t tell the people you play with this tip either. You don’t
need the competition!
III.Clear Your Head
Because the major contributors to the “yips” are tension, anxiety, and
lack of confidence, one way to help rid yourself of the them is to
empty your mind. (”Yips” are what golfers generally use to describe
the twitches, staggers, jitters & jerks associated with putting.)
Let the subconscious take over – forget about the stroke, forget about
the results, and forget about the circumstances. Just play like a child
would play. Forget the outcome. This is recreation after all, right?
Imagine it’s a Friday afternoon. You step inside your local bar to
shoot some pool. Do you worry about “technique” when you set up
for your corner shot?
I sure don’t. Why should golf be any different?
You may want to win the game, but the balance of the world isn’t
hanging on your shot, right? Shooting pool & playing golf shouldn’t
be all that different.
So what if you miss!
Try to put yourself into the same relaxed mindset when putting. Just
let it happen. Let your instincts take over.
Trust in the hours of practice that you have put in so far.
Just step up & make the shot. Put in the “subconscious.” Sounds
hokey, doesn’t it? I’d rather have a lower score and be hokey than be
“too cool” to try.
IV.Focus Your Eyes
If you want a sure way to miss a putt, look up or peek to see if the
ball goes into the hole before it does.
Don’t do it.
Resist the temptation to watch the ball.
The best thing to do is keep your head still over the ball and just
stare down at the empty spot the ball he used to occupy long before
you hit the putt.
Use your ears instead. Listen to hear if the putt falls….
Don’t allow your eyes to follow the putterhead during the stroke.
To help focus, pick a small, noticeable mark on the ball to focus
upon. Keep your eyes fixated on the brand name, printed logo, a
simple dimple, or an identification mark throughout your stroke.
If you are still having trouble, try to put your putterhead on the ball,
stare at a spot on the ball, & then stand perfectly still for five
seconds….
During these five seconds, let the gaze of your eyes slowly go out of
focus. Your eyes will still be fixated on the spot of the ball you were
staring at, but everything else will become fuzzy and soft.
Go ahead and putt with your eyes and mind in this blurry, meditative
state. Slip into an altered state & just let it happen.

Beginner golfers tend to think that the type of putter used is what
makes a great shot. However, the truth is that you can go out and
spend hundreds of dollars on a new putter, but it’s not the club that
counts (though it doesn’t hurt)….
A.The Real Secret
Do you want to know the real secret behind becoming an excellent
putter?
The answer is (drumroll)… Confidence. And confidence is often
developed from practice. Both real & imaginary practice. And
“Imaginary practice” (imagery) is more effective than you might
think, according to some studies.
Your $500 putter can definitely help. But, the true power lies in your
ability to see and believe that you have a chance to make every putt
that you attempt.
Ask anyone good a putting, and he or she will tell you the exact
same thing.
When they approach the ball, they know full well that they have total
control and that they will sink that ball with every swing made.
Sounds a bit cocky, right? It is, but it’s that attitude which makes
winners on the green,
B. Always Have A Target Line
Every putt you make should always be straight. Okay, perhaps your
shot will not end up going in a straight direction, but that’s not the
point I am trying to make here.
By saying that each putt should be a straight putt, I mean that you
should stroke every putt straight down the target line.
In order to hit a straight putt, visualize a straight line that travels
from the back of the ball directly down your target line.
This straight line should stretch all the way to the hole or least to a
point that you selected so that the ball will break right to the hole.
To better increase your chance of success, choose a spot on the
target line to aim at. Remember, the target doesn’t have to
necessarily be the actual hole. It can be anything, so long as it gets
your ball rolling in the proper direction toward the hole.
