The US Open Can Have A Significant Effect On Your Game!

2:10 pm April 30, 2010

So you may be wandering just what does the US Open Golf Tournament have to do with my game? Well, if you want to play well under pressure it should have everything to do with it. When you practice simply focusing on your swing and blasting balls at the range it’s only one small aspect to true practice. This is what is called the practise makes perfect method. Yet if you’ve golfed for any length of time you know this simply isn’t true: practice doesn’t make perfect. Practice makes permanent. So practice what is really necessary to play at your peak. Your inner game of golf requires the same attention .

In order to play well with the anxiety of stress you need to practise under the same conditions. When the chips are down and you need to hit the shot of your life, the self imposed pressure felt increases 10 fold for most golfers. The trial by fire approach to improving your mental game of golf toughness and performing under pressure is a haphazard method. Yet this is all most people know.

By entering more competitions and tournaments they have the false impression that this is going to improve their mental game and concentration skills. Unfortunately it just doesn’t work that way. What do you see happen most of the time with this typical approach ? Yes you guessed it; the vast majority of players never perform up to their own potential because they lack mental game preparedness.

Inevitably when they fail it’s chalked up to experience and they simply hope to be in a position to win again. They call this strategy the natural way. Just get in contention enough times and you’re bound to win. It’s a very haphazard mental game approach. Although the odds are if you are in position enough times sooner or later you are going to win.

I want to submit to you that the more times you are in contention and don’t win that what you are doing is increasing the likelihood of losing again, not of making winning easier. Why is this, lack of mental game preparation ? You have built a mindset of losing in your subconscious mind around not performing well under pressure. It will drive your behaviour (your thought processes and the swings you make under pressure ). You will automatically reproduce the experience of losing that you are accustomed to.

It certainly is a hard pill to swallow but if you ever want to become more than just a mediocre golfer then mental game training can save you months, and even years for some people , of pointless inner chaos around pressure, performance anxiety, competitive stress and its influence on your game . So what if you could replicate the US Open tournament pressure when you practise and then were able to take that mindset out to the course when you play?

Now let’s say you have a mental game visualization routine that is filled with every imaginable pressure situation you could encounter. Do you think it would be safe to say that you are a few steps ahead of your competition? You most certainly would.

By feeling with your mind’s eye, not simply seeing, you can undergo the exact pressure you’ll face in competition. Your subconscious mind will absorb these sessions and add them to your mental game collection and integrate them into your golfing self image. They become real situations in your subconscious. This technique provides the body and mind with sensory specific information of what pressure is and how you need to perform when it’s present.

You are, in fact preparing your mind and body to act and perform in a desired way when under pressure. Practise your mental game by imagining you are in the US Open and at the range hitting balls. Give yourself only one shot to hit your desired target. Establish a scoring system to examine how well you perform this way. Increase the pressure by taking only one drive, then one iron, then a chip shot if you miss your target with your approach shot. Try to pay very close attention to how your perform when using this technique.

If you want to speed up your mental game progress and begin to play well under pressure then it’s imperative you simulate pressure in your practice sessions . How else are you going to prepare for the inevitable? Do you really want to rely on the time worn method of entering more and more tournaments and matches just hoping to get use to the pressure? How much time money are you prepared to spend before you make the changes necessary ?

Take hold of your potential by developing a rock solid mental game. Your overall mindset on the course, your Mental Game of Golf toughness, your sense of clarity and inner confidence under the gun, and a list of other benefits will enter your game. Not just sporadically but for a lifetime. You will be amazed how the little things that used to distract you before no longer enter your mind.

The Mental Game Of Golf Could Be The Hardest Part To Master

7:22 am April 1, 2010

As a golfer you must definitely be aware that learning the inner game of golf is just as significant – if not more imperative – as learning even something as fundamental as swing basics. Perhaps to a greater extent than with any other sport, conquering golf’s mental game is essential to becoming a single digit handicap golfer. Without a strong mental game, you can pretty much reserve yourself to mediocrity at best.

Remember back to your last round of golf – did you visualize every shot before making your swing? If not, you are depriving yourself of a very important step. With no visualization, you have less of a chance to send your ball down the middle of the fairway upon contact.

If you failed to take the time to visualize your shot, the chances are pretty high that you did not have a great shot. If this was the case, were you able to bounce back after sending your ball in the wrong direction? Or was your mental game of golf such that you fell quickly into a rut? On the other hand, when you have a great shot are you able to duplicate it on your ensuing shots? Improving your mental game will help you to repeat the good shots and isolate the bad ones.

To develop golf’s mental game you must be able to handle every little distraction that comes your way – be that a bad shot or slower groups on the course. Mastering your golf swing doesn’t come easily and either does mastering the mental side of golf.

In addition to visualizing your swing and having the ability to not let a bad shot get to you, there are many other components to the mental game of golf. Learning to cope with pressure is a big part of the mental game, as we all know that stress levels rise when the game gets competitive. Learning to utilize pressure to your advantage will drastically improve your game. It is, in fact, reasonably possible to use pressure to take you to the next level.

Also, it is essential to the game of golf that you remain in the moment. This technique is practiced by Buddhist monks from all over the world; and it can be applied quite relevantly to the game of golf. If you are not focused, centered and paying attention to your game, it is nearly impossible to play at your best. Learning to stay in the moment is perhaps one of the best methods to improving your mental game.

If you learn to control the mental game of golf, the rest will fall into place. While it may seem counterintuitive to work on the psychological component of a sport before even the fundamentals, this approach works. Any professional golfer will tell you that the mental game of golf is a very important aspect of the game that can’t be over looked. By working on the psychological component of the game, you effectively simplify the rest of the learning process.

Understanding the mental side of golf can also be a fun and rewarding part of the game. Watching yourself as you get better at this part of the game gives you a feeling of accomplishment. But along with this mental game, you can’t leave out the necessity for a good physical one either. It’s being able to combine the two that will ultimately get you to the lower handicap you desire.

Learning the mental game of golf requires instruction from some of golf’s masters. To learn more about how to improve your mental game and much more, visit: The Golfaholic.com where you can also find Golf Club and Equipment Reviews.

Where To Find Free Golf Tips Online

3:04 pm January 18, 2010

People have been fascinated with mastering the often frustrating game of golf ever since the game was invented back in the 15th century. Since 1750 the game of golf evolved into what we know it as today. Although golf equipment technology and teaching techniques have improved, mastering the game of golf is still as difficult as ever.

Thankfully, today we have the Internet and access to many golf tips online. Although I have played golf for over 30 years, I struggled to master the game until recently. With the many golf resources you can find online, it is now easier to discover the little “secrets” that can make a big difference with your game.

There are many excellent paid products, like golf instructional DVD’s, golf swing aids, and even some golf e-books that can help you master the game of golf. But, you can also find some valuable free golf tips online as well. Although you sometimes will find that there are many different techniques – especially regarding the grip and the transition from backswing to downswing.

To see what works for you, just try out the different techniques until you feel comfortable. The golf swing is a fairly complex movement and there are several styles; from the newer stack and tilt golf swing to the traditional swing. Some online golf tips instruct you to grip the club firmly, tightly, or even loosely. These terms are quite subjective as they don’t really tell you the amount of pressure to use – so just experiment until you find the right grip – I prefer a firm grip.

When looking for golf tips online, take into account that there is more to golf than just learning the golf swing. Look for resources that show you the most comprehensive golf tips online. One of the most important areas of golf, that is often ignored, is the mental game of golf. You want free golf tips? First, learn to dominate your inner game of golf.

Also, it is important to know what the right golf equipment (golf clubs and balls) is for your type of game. If you are starting out, look for clubs that are suited for the beginner golfer as they are more forgiving. Buy a driver and fairway woods with a graphite shaft, large titanium head, and perimeter weighting. For irons, choose iron shafts for accuracy, more sole weighting, and wider soles. For beginners or high handicap golfers, play a two-piece, mid spin, firm feel golf ball.

Like I said before, look for golf tips online that covers every area of the golf game. Some of the things you need to learn are the grip; setup and stance; backswing, transition, and downswing; driving, fairway shots, chipping, bunker shots, and putting; course management; how to fix problems like the slice, hook, and pull / push shots; and the different trouble shots you will encounter – playing into the wind, deep rough, hill lies, and more.

You could of course pay a professional golf instructor to learn all these things, but you will end up paying a lot of money for many lessons. My recommendation would be to start out to learn as much as possible with free online golf tips. You could then take a few one-on-one golf lessons and then visit the driving range to practice what you have learned. Finally, get out on the golf course and play a round of golf – and remember, to master the game of golf, you need to practice – happy golfing!

If you are looking for golf tips online, then check out Mick’s Golf Online Tips website where you will find Golf Tips for Beginners and free golf tips for ways to improve your game.

Using The Mental Game Of Golf To Shoot Lower Scores

12:31 pm January 6, 2010

Information on how to take your golf game to a higher level abound all over the place and you have no doubt seen the adverts. You might have even taken the next step and bought those golf balls that promise you 30 yards more distance or the latest driver that powers drives straight down the fairway. So, are you in fact getting those extra yards and accuracy?

If you still believe all the advertising myths from the big golf equipment companies, then it is time to listen up. An all round good golf game is much more than having a good golf swing or owning the latest and greatest titanium driver.

It is true that the beginner can learn a lot from some of the golf swing guides or fix a persistent golf swing fault with a certain golf training aid. In fact, I have reviewed and recommended several good guide books and training aids that can improve areas of your swing on my blog. Did you know that there is one missing piece of the golf puzzle that you should know about? It is the mental game of golf.

First of all, I want to dispel some of the myths that say a perfect golf game can be bought, so let’s review the facts:

In the mid-70’s, 25% of golfers could break 90 and only a quarter of them could score in the 70’s. Today, thirty years later we now have titanium drivers, graphite shafts, variable weighted heads, cavity backed irons, and 4-piece golf balls. With these advances, a total of 28% of golfers can break 90 – wow!

It has been estimated that 90 billion has been spent by the golf equipment industry on new technology and ad spend since the late 70’s. So the golf industry should be contented to know that a further 3% of golfers have managed to break 90! Not included in those billions are the huge outlay of capital spent on the development of golf training aids and golf instructional products.

So what is the missing ingredient that can promote the quickest and most lasting change in any golfer’s game? The mental game of golf or the inner game of golf is the key to improvement. Interestingly, this is the only area that doesn’t cost a penny to use, however hardly anyone uses it.

The mental golf game: Using your mind in a calculated, methodical and focused way is the surest method of lowering your scores. There are many facets of the mental game of golf that you need to learn. Things like:

-Gaining confidence in yourself and your game

-Confidence in yourself and your game

-Controlling your attention

-Curing golf nerves and anxiety

-Finding Your Game and Playing Within it

-Developing clear focus and mental toughness

-Eliminate anger from your game

You should by now be thinking about using the mental game of golf in your game; if you understand the significance of it. The top 5% of golfers understand and use the inner game of golf and that is what separates them from us. These top players know all about how to enter the “Zone” by using advanced visualization techniques that improve every area of their game, powerful goal setting processes, and mental imagery processes.

There is no doubt that golf is a complex game. There are many areas that you need to perfect and work on; first use the right (not the most expensive) golf equipment for your game. Practice and improve your golf swing technique, and maybe even work on golf fitness training. But if you want to take your golf game to the next level and shoot lower scores, you need to master the mental game of golf.

Are you ready to take your game to the next level and quickly lower your scores? Then go to Mick’s website to discover the Mental Golf Game techniques. You can also learn all about Golf Mental Game training by reading his articles.

Using Subliminal Affirmations to Improve Your Golf Game

6:17 am January 3, 2010

Learning to dominate the inner game of golf is important because the game of golf is 90% a mental game. Most golfers struggle for years until they learn how to use mental golf techniques to improve their game. Before spending more money on the latest golf clubs, golf training aid, or instruction, first learn how to apply the mental game of golf.

What do subliminal messages have to do with golf, you may think? Well, Tiger Woods has used subliminal affirmations since the age of 13. Most of the other top PGA professionals also use powerful mental techniques – in fact, it is the missing ingredient that the top 5% of golfers use.

What is Subliminal Affirmations?

The way this technique works is that the (audio) messages go straight into your unconscious mind and bypass your conscious mind. The unconscious part of our mind controls our habits and behavior.

More often than not, your mind is filled with negativity that makes you believe that you can’t do things, and it is unceasingly putting you down. As the affirmations are subliminal, they bypass your conscious mind, going straight into your unconscious mind, where there is no opposition.

This way, your brain will then intercept any messages that get through to it, and instantly use them to construct new behaviors and thought patterns. With the use of subliminal affirmations for golf, the intricate movements of the golf swing will become a second nature, just like driving your car. When your unconscious mind is trained correctly, your golf swing will work on autopilot – you don’t have to think about the mechanics of it.

Powerful Subliminal Affirmations

Before, subliminal techniques were used in advertising. They were so effective and powerful that they have in fact now been forbidden. You might have also seen subliminal programs that can put you through a complete sleep cycle in only 20 minutes and others that you listen to before going to bed that make you sleep deeply all night.

Other subliminal affirmation audio programs are used to help you with relationship building, love life, business success, or self confidence. They are powerful and proved techniques – but as a golfer, you almost certainly want to know how these techniques can help you improve your golf game.

Amazing Golf Mind

There is in fact a program called Amazing Golf Mind that can indeed help you take your golf game to a higher level. By listening to this program for just 20 minutes, three to four times a week before going to bed, your golf game will improve and your score will drop – and all without practicing! Learning the mental game of golf techniques can be difficult, but with the Amazing Golf Mind audio program it is as easy as falling off a bike!

To learn how to improve your game of golf through Subliminal Affirmations, visit Mick’s golf tips site and read his Amazing Golf Mind review.

Golf- The Mental Game

11:25 pm June 1, 2009

The fundamentals of golf are very different than many other sports.
Take baseball for example.

When you get up to bat to swing, your need to adjust to the pitch
based upon on how it’s thrown at you. In other words, the game is
built around your reaction towards what someone else is doing.

You don’t make your move until the pitcher throws the ball.
In golf, however, you are in control. You are in charge of making
every move. The ball just sits there, waiting for you to take a shot.

You are responsible for every play that happens, disregarding natural
elements of course. You cannot blame a bad play on a pitch, another
teammate (unless on a team), or anything else. It’s kind of a solo
endeavor.

This is what makes golf so difficult, challenging, & yet fun to play.

And on top of that, you have people watching you, all in complete
silence.

Talk about the need for focus!

A. Positive Mindset

Golf requires that you focus & think about every shot you try.

Golf requires so much attention to what you are doing that any type
of negative thought or worry can have a dramatic effect on the
outcome of your game.

Doubt can easily seep into your mind, especially if you are a
beginner. Once this happens, your body may firm up, you may get
nervous & jittery, & the next thing you know, your ball has landed in
the rough.

Consider it to be the equivalent of stage fright. Yes, golf can be this
difficult, if you let it.

How can you prevent negative thoughts & feelings from arising on
the course? The answer is extremely simple, yet it may be difficult to
comprehend at first.
All you have to do is take action. Take action faster than your mind
can start thinking about bad swings. That’s the thing about golf – you
can literally think your way into a slump. But quick action can help
get you out it!

Stick with the basics and focus on simple repetitive movements.

Keep your body loose & as you prepare for your shot, shift the
weight of your body from foot to foot: back & forth.

Wiggle your club a bit & loosen up. Have fun & stop worrying about
negative consequences.

Just learning how to play a stress-free game may be the hardest
lesson you’ll learn in golf…

Pitching & Chipping…

9:09 am May 23, 2009

When To Use A Chip Shot
A.The Regs
The United States Golf Association does the world a favor by
annually updating it’s official “Rules of Golf.”
One of the regulations, called the “Greens In Regulation” (GIR),
states that you must hit the ball onto the green in a specific number
of shots as determined by the par rule of that particular hole.
On a Par-3, for example, you have one shot in order to get the ball
on the green. Par-4 holes give you two shots to reach the green. And
Par-5 holes mean that you have three shots, etc.

Hitting the ball onto the green within these regulations can be
difficult for newer players. Your ball may end up just off the green, a
foot away, on the collar, or in the rough.
So what can you do?

B.The Chip To The Rescue Handy
A chip shot is very similar to a pitch shot. Both are high lofting shots
at first that eventually roll most of their distance toward the target.
The difference is that the chip shot is used for shorter distances. The
ball doesn’t need to go as far as when you use a pitch shot. It may
just need to travel a few feet.
It works like this:

Many times your ball will land somewhere within the range of a
short iron – a close shot to the green.

This is the time when you have to decide if it is best to try a chip or a
pitch.

1.The Pitch Shot: As stated above, a pitch shot is used when the
ball lands much further from the green & has more distance to cover.
But, the objective of both shots is the same: you want your shot to
snuggle up as close to the hole as possible so that your next putt can
be made easily from a short distance of just a few feet or less.

Pitch shots also come in handy when you must send the ball airborne
over a hazard area or any other obstacle.

The pitch is airborne longer and higher than the chip and has more
backspin.

2.The Chip Shot: A chip shot is used when your ball lands within 5
to 10 feet of the green. Basically, it is any shot that you make which
is close to the green.

Your goal when making a chip shot is simply to lag the ball as close
to the hole as possible so that you have a very easy putt to make.

The ball simply chips it’s way up and onto the green, covering a
short distance.

This shot might not seem like the killer weapon to use on the
course. But, having the skill to successfully use it when you need to
can come in quite handy.

It saves unwanted strokes & prevents you from overshooting the
green.

Think of it like this: When you are close, chip. close=chip. When
you need more power, pitch.
