How To Improve Golf Swing Consistency

12:29 pm May 2, 2010

One of the greatest things about golf is that it’s possible to start at any age and you will improve for as long as you play. Most golfers have one major problem. They hate to practice! However, practice is the only method that will allow you get better. You can’t practice while playing, so that is out. You cannot practice in your home, although there are many things that can help your game, so without question, when the question is will practice improve golf swing consistency, the answer is 100% yes.

Golf is about balance and comfort. The better you feel when you are addressing your shot the better you will likely hit it. If you watch other players, you’ll see that the best ones have great balance. This is not difficult to achieve. It just takes some practice and good fundamentals. Even if you are not overly athletic, everyone can work on their balance. It’s as simple as keeping your balance to walk!

However, if you practice the wrong things, in the wrong way, then you will not gain in your game and in many cases you could actually become worse! Golf is a game of balance. It’s balance before, during and after your swing. Once you get comfortable with your swing in balance, the results will be better than if you are not in balance.

Once you feel comfortable in this position, you will immediately have more confidence when approaching a shot. Simply stated, your weight should be focused on the inside of both of your feet as that will give some stability. You will want to feel as if your feet are firmly planted on the ground and that you have strength in your lower body. The larger muscles in your legs and back are the most important in a golf swing.

To improve with your consistency, your grip must also be comfortable and repeatable. Again, this is another simple method to start becoming more confident with your swing. It will also give you an idea where your ball is going when you hit it! This can also be practiced at home without having to hit a ball. Just work on getting a loose grip on the club and you will not have to manufacture something different on the range or the course.

Your grip is the next area to focus on to build a repeatable swing. It doesn’t matter which grip you employ, it just must be the same, all of the time. And be sure not to choke the club! A loose grip allows you to generate more power as you approach the ball. Again, practice this while not at the range to develop a repeatable grip. Remember, comfort and consistency.

Lastly, when you do get to the range your ball position will also need to be consistent for various shots. For your tee shots, especially with a wood or metal club, the ball should always be towards the front of your stance. Being right handed, the ball should be positioned towards your left foot instep. This will allow you to swing through the impact area. And always remember to finish your swing. It shouldn’t end when you hit the ball!!

All of these ideas will definitely help you get the most of your talents. However, even the best players in the world still work with a Professional, so take some lessons. If for nothing else to confirm that you are doing as many things correctly as you can. But remember that your swing can be grooved by repeating good set up and grip. You will see more shots in the fairway and on the green if your balance and grip are duplicated on each swing.

All of these things add up to more distance with less effort. No one facet can be eliminated from this list without having an effect on your overall improvement. As a result, it requires time spent on the refinement of the movements involved. golf swings

Golf Swing Lesson: Tips to Improve Your Game

9:53 pm November 7, 2009

The first step for a student in any golf swing lesson, should be to understand the two key principles to a great swing technique. These are namely rhythm and balance. These must be mastered in order to take your game to the next level of proficiency. When you have full control of both of these, your consistency and confidence will grow in leaps and bounds. Rhythm, in the context of golf swing techniques, is the the ability to repeat the same movement on a consistent basis and with the same speed. Balance with regards to golf swing, is the ability to maintain stability through every stage of the stroke from the teeing up stage to completion.

A useful tip is to watch professional players as much as possible, to see how they develop their own golf swing techniques. More often than not, they will go through a sequence of steps each time that will get them into the correct frame of mind for the shot. Balance and poise starts in the mind and picturing the perfect shot is an often used technique by sports psychologists. This can help the student to visualise the shot even before they approach the actual ’set-up’ for the shot.

Over-swinging is a frequent mistake when trying to master the correct technique. The thinking is that to achieve a longer distance shot, that an increased arc of the club and faster speed of follow through is needed. The result is frequently a poor connection with the ball, due to an incorrect alignment of the face of the club. It is the length of time that the face of the club is in connection with the ball that is important, not just the speed. The aim should be not to take the club back further than you can rotation of your shoulders. Once these foundations are in place then the distance factor will come by default.

A daily practice schedule should help in the achievement of pleasing results. The muscles will also strengthen with this training, with wider stretch and better overall control. Also, it is useful not to forget that there is a large number of e-books, videos and tutorials which can provide new techniques, ideas and inspiration. It may be a good idea to book a golf swing lesson with a local professional when some of this theory and practice is established. In time, you will feel more in control of your game and be able to correct your golf swing with analysis giving you more independence.

Lastly, it is important to warm-up and stretch properly before starting a game or practice session. Not only will this help protect you from muscle and joint damage, but your golf swing will be much more ‘fluid.
