A golf slice is caused by the club-face coming across the ball from outside the target line, creating side-spin on the ball. Upon first thought, this may seem like a mechanical issue. And it is…but if you dig a little deeper, you’ll find it’s a ‘physical’ issue.

You need to know that it is your body what rules your capability to swing the club with effectiveness. If you have any kind of physical impediment, your swing will come with mechanical problems and the faults will appear.

In the golf swing there are many compensations for lack of proper mechanics. If you can’t make a 90 degree shoulder turn on the back-swing, you’ll do whatever it takes to feel like you are making a full turn.

A good example of this would be to rotate your hips beyond the desired 45 degrees to enable your body to make a full back-swing. What this does is rob you of power. You have no torque built up in your core to unleash into the ball at impact.

The same thing with a golf slice.

A golf slice is nothing more than the result of your upper body going ahead of your lower body. That creates what they call “an over-the-top” motion. This results in the club-face cutting the ball making a side-spin. That is what we know as the banana ball.

Your first inclination would be to go get golf lessons to fix your slice. If that does not work, then you get a training aid. If that doesn’t work either, you might go and get an offset driver to help you correct your slice issue.

The real solution! Forget about your lessons. Stop buying training aids. And also maintain your normal driver in your bag.

You must work your rotational ability. It is that simple. The moment you are able to separate your upper and lower body, you will see your golf slice improve greatly.

Along with fixing your golf slice, you’ll add up to 30 yards to your drives. You will get more roll when the ball lands from a draw ball flight. A golf slice is a weak shot that does not penetrate the air for maximum distance.
