Golf Swing Tips: Reduce Your Strokes With These Golf Swing Tips

8:31 am November 8, 2009

Today’s topic is an area in your golf swing that is sometimes neglected. It is not really talked about too often, and that is…..how to properly rotate your hands through the ball. Lucky for us, this golf tip is simple to implement and will have a positive impact on your game if done correctly. Let’s take a closer look….

Golf Swing Tips – How To Rotate Your Hands Through The Ball At Impact

The main focus of today’s lesson is to make sure you are in the perfect position at the point of impact. The angle of the club head will determine the outcome of your shot whether that is hitting it straight, slicing it, hooking, etc. Now grab one of your irons and perform your regular swing. What we want to look for is the position of your hands and forearms at the point of impact.

When you are at the impact position make sure that you are keeping your wrists straight and locked. If you let your wrists bend to the left or right at impact your shot will most likely result in a slice which is not what we want. This bending of the wrists is what is known as a “wrist break”. So keep your wrists straight. Also, we need to “flip” our hands at the point of impact. There is an easy exercise that I have to help you master this technique….

The Wrist Watch Exercise

In order for you to learn the proper technique you need to see it in action. This can be done easily by using a simple wrist watch. So go grab a watch and let’s get started…

Ok, Do you have your watch? Now, as your leading arm comes into the impact zone, the watch face should be facing your target, which will more than likely be the flag. At the point of impact, ROTATE your wrists and forearms so the watch face is pointing at the ground. This movement will also make your trailing wrist and forearm “flip” on top of your leading wrist and forearm. Continue to practice this movement until it feels completely natural within your golf swing.

Properly rotating your wrists through the ball at impact will automatically “close” your club face which reduces that nasty slice and improves your total distance. This move will both reduce your slice, and add distance.

When implementing this tip, it’s important to note that your forearms should be working together. Keep your forearms as close to each other as possible through the impact zone. Once you master this technique you will be well on your way to longer, straighter shots, and a lower golf score :)
